Ganga Aarti Varanasi
Ganga Aarti in Varanasi is one of the main tourist attraction of Varanasi. This Ganga Aarti was not that popular in early days of Varanasi. Mostly locals used to join and pray together. The main Aarti is actually at Dashashwamedh Ghat which starts at 6:45 PM in summer ( April to September) and 6 PM in winter ( October to March) approx. Its basically a sunset time when the Ganga Aarti starts. Please make sure that you reach an hour and half before the Aarti starts.
It is best to watch Ganga Aarti from the balcony at Dashashwamedh Ghat as its secure and safe. Many people prefer to watch the Aarti from boat as well. If you are planning to watch the Ganga Aarti then I’d recommend going to balcony.
To watch Ganga Aarti at Dashashwamedh Ghat, you need to leave your hotel at 4PM if you are 5-6 km away from the center. Take a rickshaw or tuktuk and come to Girja Ghar crosssing. Please note if you are using tuktuk, then they are allowed til Beniabagh Parking, PDR Mall or Maidagin Crossing. Then from there you will have to walk or take paddle rickshaw. For disables, there are plenty of wheelchair guys available around the street. Then head towards Dashashwamedh Ghat. Follow Google maps to reach the location. Please note that the Ganga Aarti happens at two different ghats at Dashashwamedh Ghat.
One Aarti happens with seven Pandits ( Priests) at Ganga Sewa Nidhi and second one is next to it at Gangotri Sewa Nidhi with five Pandits ( priests) .
