Chitrakoot means the ‘Hill of many wonders’. Chitrakoot falls in the northern Vindhya range of mountains spread over the states of Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh. Chitrakoot district in Uttar Pradesh was created on 4 September 1998. Chitrakoot Parvat Mala includes Kamad Giri, Hanumaan Dhara, Janki Kund, Lakshman pahari, and Devangana famous Religious mountains.Lord Rama spend a major part of his exile here. According to the epic Ramayana, Chitrakoot is the place where Bharat, brother of Lord Rama came to visit him and asked him to return to Ayodhya and rule the kingdom. It is believed that the supreme Gods of Hinduism, (Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva) took incarnations here. The place is dotted with many temples and several religious sites. At Chitrakoot, everything relates to Lord Rama. One can also explore the amalgamation of culture and history on this land. Chitrakoot is a spiritual retreat, thronged almost throughout the year by travellers, who have a penchant for the unknown and unexplored. Chitrakoot is a perfect blend of divinity, serenity, and natural beauty.

  1. Exploring The Gupt Godavari

It is located at a distance of 19kms south of Ramghat. Godavari River emerges as perennial stream from rocks which is situated inside the cave and further it flows to other cave which is beyond it and all of a sudden it vanishes. A large rock of the river is said to be a form of Demon Mayank, who stole Goddess Sita’s clothes when she was having her bath. This demon Mayank was killed by God Laxman. In this Lord Rama and his brother Laxman held a court. At the entrance of the cave, beautifully carved sculptures of Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva can be seen.

  1. Don’t Miss The Steps Of The Popular River

Ram Ghat is located on the bank of Mandakini River, a long stretch of steps is made. Many holy men dressed in saffron dresses can be seen meditated. In the Ram Ghat, all three Ram, Laxamn and Sita stayed here at the time of their exile. After that the famous poet Tulsidas used to sit here. Tulsidar wrote Ram charitmanas while sitting on the platform of the Ramghat. The platform is known as Tulsi Chabutra. Early in the morning devotees are seen standing in the flowing river to offer prayers. Tourists who visit the place also can attend evening aarti.

  1. Seek Prayers Of Mandakini River

Here, in this temple one can sense spirituality and serenity together. The creation of Mandakini River was done by Anusuya’s prayers, which in turn led to the end of the famine in the place. This is a place where sati Anusuya resided with her husband and sons. The temple is located on the bank of Mandakini River. The scenic beauty around the temple is the source of attraction of tourists. Devotees and tourists visit it every day. There are no charges to visit this temple. This temple is located at a distance of 16kms from Chitrakoot bus stand.

  1. Visit The Top Hills Of Chitrakoot

It is a spring located on a hill in one of the best Chitrakoot tourist places. It is popular for various reasons. There are many temples at Hanuman Dhara that attract devotees. In mythology this Hanuman Dhara was made by Rama to provide shelter to Hanuman when he returned after burning Lanka. Besides the beautiful view of the historic town of Chitrakoot, a breathtaking sight is to be held. No entry fees is there to visit the place. This place is at a distance of only 5 kms from Chitrakoot bus stand.

Chitrakoot is home to one of the most important temples of Hindus as it is a place where the historical Bharat Milap takes place. Bharat Milap refers to the meeting of four brothers Ram, Laxman, Shatrugan and Bharat during the period of exile.

  1. Take Blessings Of Jhanki Kund

It is located on the banks of river Mandakini. It is a holy place for Hindus as this spot is mentioned in the religious text of Hindu. This kund was the favourite bathing spot of the goddess Sita during exile.

This is a famous wildlife park. You will enjoy raw nature teamed up with flora and fauna at this national park. It is located in Chattarpur, Madhya Pradesh. You can find varieties of animals like tigers, leopards on a wildlife safari. It is a heaven for people who love flora and fauna and photographers. It is one of the best places of Chitrakoot to visit. Entry depends on the type of safari you choose.
